It was the day for the career builders when high flyers gathered in the civic centre of the town to find big crowd of students who wish to build their careers in this week. Job expo in Fielding aimed to explore employment paths and found about 1500 students in Manawatu from various fields like agriculture, business, engineering, management and fashion.
The job expo introduces 35 companies, training institutes and tertiary education to the students. All these organizations set up their stalls and tried to attract students, teachers and also their parents. They described the students about the future opportunities which can bring a brighter future to them. All the companies and institutes aimed at showing correct path and building good career of the students.
The expo was called by district Mayor for providing full time engagement whether by means of study or jobs to the deserving students of 25 years or more. The promotion manger of the expo Helen Worboys is also a member of Mayor’s taskforce concluded that this expo will definitely build a link between the interested parties and will set future of Manawatu, New Zealand in long term which will also be a great achievement for the Mayor’s taskforce.
This was a first attempt on part of the Mayor’s taskforce to build future of the students by linking them with the business organizations. Students in Fielding were very much confused while selecting the correct channel to approach a brighter future. The expo helped them in clearing their confusion and suggested them to choose exactly what they want from their future. They got the correct path for getting involved with employment, career and training opportunities in the town.
The expo covered two sessions. The morning session had several interactive displays which were managed by the staff members. Their objective was to promote requirements of the organizations. They demonstrated that job or training seekers must have requisite skills, qualification and attribute matching the job. These attributes will not only select correct person from the crowd but also encourage others who could not fulfill the requirements to work harder and try their luck for the next time.
In the evening session the crowd was addressed by the Mayor Margeret Kouvelis in the chair. The Mayor talked to the students about their experience in the employment fair. Students exchanged their opinion regarding finding jobs in Fielding. However, everything was not over at the end of the day as the students were challenged with completing a presentation such as photo display or a video on their experience for a follow up with the organizations and are also supposed to visit the organization for 24 hrs.
So, it is expected that in near future the employment scenario in Manawatu will change and there will be more of employed person in comparison to the unemployed one. The Mayor is quiet pleased to organize the employment expo in the town and expects positive reactions after presentation shows of the students are over with the organizations.
