With two tablets in the new series of Galaxy Tab S Korean manufacturer Samsung has aimed at users demanding quality display. And after the launch of big version Galaxy Tab S 10.5, we are pleased to have Galaxy Tab S 8.4, which, despite its smaller diagonal display pleases with Super AMOLED technology and extremely high resolution.
In the market for quite successfully marketed tablet Galaxy Tab PRO with diagonals of 8.4 and 10.1 inches, so that the representation of two more models of Galaxy Tab S with the same diagonal at first seems strange. Still, Samsung has already quite well satisfied all users who need a powerful and stylish Android tablet with high-resolution screen, the two models Galaxy Tab Pro. But the output of the family Galaxy Tab S is justified not so much with a display resolution as the technology matrix.
Super AMOLED displays promise infinite depth of black color, brightness tends to zero, resulting in a record high contrast and very rich colors. The tablet Galaxy Tab S 10.5 has already voted as one of the best tab in 2014, it really kept the promise to the manufacturer. But 10.5″ diagonal can’t be called compact. If you need a compact tablet with a screen Super AMOLED (which, by the way, more and cheaper), then pay attention to the Galaxy Tab S 8.4.
If you look at the specifications, the “younger” tablet Samsung did not lose “older brother”. At Galaxy Tab S 8.4 we get the identical characteristics:
- Chipset: Samsung Exynos 5420 Octa (quad-core Cortex A7 and four Cortex A15 up to 1.9 GHz)
- Display: 8.4 inches, 2.560 x 1.600 (WQXGA), Super AMOLED
- Battery: 4.900 mAh
- Camera (front): 2.1 MP
- Camera (rear): 8 MP with LED-flash
- Memory: 16 GB flash memory, microSD (up to 128 GB)
- Dimensions / Weight: 212.8 x 125.6 x 6.6 mm and 298 g
In the smaller 8inches version Galaxy Tab S we get also very high resolution 2.560 x 1.600 pixels. Samsung also used a powerful chipset Exynos 5420 Octa with four energy-efficient Cortex-A7 cores and four powerful cores Cortex-A15. Depending on the required performance, choose one or the other group of cores. Of course, Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is much smaller 10.5-inch model. But the thickness did not change – 6.6 mm, so that both the tablet Galaxy Tab S can be described as very thin. But the weight at the “younger” model has changed, down from 467 g to 298 g. slightly smaller tablets iPad Mini with Retina display even weigh more – 331 g (version Wi-Fi) or 341 g (version 3G).
Of course, in addition to various sizes and weights we get other differences between the two tablets of Galaxy Tab S: at the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is used with a lower capacity battery. And yes the price of Galaxy Tab S 8.4 cheap is cheaper. This was all about the one of the high-end tablet from Samsung and we expect something similar for the next upcoming Galaxy Tab 5 series.
